DESCRIPTION

Very nice condition bayonet for the 1816 pattern muskets that were converted to percussion in the 1850s and used to arm many of the early-war volunteers. This one has a bright blade, no markings but the US at its base, and has a 3-inch socket with correct T-slot, and a 17 7/8 inch blade. Reilly mentions only 16-inch blades, but Schmidt says 17 7/8 is the correct length for these. The blade shoulders are the sloping shoulders of the 1855 series of arms, which is correct for this pattern. This one comes with a nice Wilkinson and Cummings marked early war style two-rivet scabbard that shows just minor abrasions and a few tiny paint dots.
