DESCRIPTION

Mint condition US cavalry carbine sling. Buff leather, full length, originally black, now oxidized to brown. No markings visible, but these were often marked in ink, which wears off. Unmarked sling hook as well. A little stiff, but not hardened. Buckled at full length. This is the early version that introduced the box shaped stitching to retain the buckle instead of the single straight line, which only weakened the sling by provided a line of holes to tear along, but did not yet introduce the use of copper rivets as an extra measure.
A scarce pattern and about as mint as you will find. Complete and uncut.
Used in the 1840s in white, then in black from the early 1850s right up through the Indian Wars until replaced by the 1885 version.
Shipping $12.95. NY addresses add sales tax.
