Classic bone handled,iron mounted cutlass of the early 18th century. 28 inches overall with 23.5 inch blade, 1.5 inch wide at the guard. Narrow ricasso. Single narrow fuller along back edge. See Neumann Battle Weapons 177.SS for a very close match; Gilkerson vol. 1, p.77, number 14 for a similar example. An identical example just sold at Northeast Auctions for a bit over $3,400.
These are often labeled as American, but I don't think anyone really knows.
