DESCRIPTION

1851 pattern sword belt plate. Early war three-piece wreath and shorter plate for the narrower belt: 2 1/16 tall by 3 5/16 inches wide. No bench number. Reverse of plate has Frances / Biddle in pencil and two other bits of writing I cannot make out. Since this is the feminine form of the first name I assume she was the daughter of the cavalryman, artilleryman or NCO who wore it, but there seem too many possibilities to narrow it down. (CW data lists some 224 Biddles, so it might work, but it would take a while!)

A good CW US issue rectangular eagle plate.

Shipping $8.95 priority mail insured. NY addresses add sales tax.
