Poinset Cavalry Tactics 1864 Edition
click for an even bigger image

A scarce cavalry manual: Poinset's Cavalry Tactics, three volumes in one. This is the 1864 printing of his original 1841 volume. 450 pages plus 120 numbered plates, many of which are long fold-outs, and bugle calls.
The book is reasonably tight, just a slight looseness in the binding. An owner or library name on the bottom of the title page has been blocked out but the number "0597" in old light purple ink remains.
I have gone through the plates, but I have not tried to unfold any that looked untouched. I found that plate 75, a long fold out dealing with "running at the heads," a cavalry saber drill is complete but has a short tear at lower left near the binding. Plates 76, 77, and 78 are shorter fold-out plates and are each missing a section or sections. The remainder are good.
A key tactics book in understanding US cavalry formations, drills, tactics, etc.
