Original US army issue mess gear. Fork and knife, both marked on the handles with 1882 patent dates: "PAT.DEC.19.82" and "US" on the blade of the knife and on the back of the fork neck between the tines and the handle. The handles are a heavy white metal and show bright gray along the high points from handling. The iron portions are brown overall with light surface rust and shallow pitting. The very tip of the knife is missing.
With these are their two original leather sheaths. (I do not have the spoon for this set.)
With these I have grouped a set of three condiment bags. I have seen these offered elsewhere in similarly mint condition. I do not know the source and am naturally suspicious, given their condition. There is little to go on since they are just cloth and cord. So, I am putting them in with the fork, knife and sheaths. (I see them priced around $60 for a set of three elsewhere.) They may be fine, but I can't guarantee them.
