DESCRIPTION

Spanish 3-pound gun. Though the cascabel is tubular, these were used in the field like the British "light three-pounder." This one was rather special. It had blown out, tearing a wide gap on one side forward of the trunnions. It must have been a surprise to the gun crew, but illustrated why bronze guns were preferred: they tore instead of fragmenting.
