DESCRIPTION

Regulation Civil War eagle drum by Alexander Rogers, with his label glued inside reading "Manufactured / by / A. Rogers / Flushing, L.I."
Very good condition showing real field use. The upper rim shows wear from the drumsticks occasionally hitting it or from the drummer practicing on the rims. Tears in the top and bottom heads, but very displayable as is.
The paint is very good, just some minor scratches. Full height. Overall muted age tones with some of the light blue showing along the top where the rim and flesh hoop had concealed it.
I have not tried to tighten down the rims or humidify and stretch back the heads. As it stands, the drum measures about 15 1/2 inches tall. Tightening the rims would lower it to about 15 inches. The external diameter is 16 1/2 inches counting the rims. The shell itself is about 15 3/4 across.
Rope and leather tighteners replaced. Snare seems to be original.
Rogers had seven US contracts from August 1862 to September 1863 totaling 1,900 drums, and another three contracts in 1864 for a further 2,500 (see Bazelon volumes 1 and 2.)
