DESCRIPTION

Very good condition Civil War US infantry waistbelt and plate. Bridle leather, 1 7/8 inches wide, 40 inches long, plus plate. Plate is arrow-back style, with beveled hook, etc. Brass keeper in place. Good finish left on the belt. Flexible and solid. Very sharp JC Miller US Ordnance sub-inspector stamp near the keeper. I see no maker marks. Plate has a soldier's rack number, "15" deeply stamped on the reverse. There is also a faint name with several initials written in ink on the inside of the belt. I have tried several times to puzzle it out with no success. You might have better luck. In any case, it is a legitimate CW infantry enlistedman's belt that was actually issued but is still in very good condition. Untouched dark attic patina to the plate.
